Amazon No Longer Offers 2-Day Prime Shipping (Here’s What To Do About It)

Have you noticed that Amazon doesn’t deliver on their 2-day Prime Shipping anymore? It’s actually not even close for my address and I’ve had to return stuff to Amazon as I don’t need it by the time the package shows up. Anything that I want to buy today (a Monday) won’t be delivered until Sunday at the earliest. I tested this on a bunch of different shopping categories and made sure it was all products sold and shipped directly by Amazon, and none could be delivered before Sunday, 6 days from NOW. But alas, not all hope is lost, here’s what you should do to hold Amazon’s feet to the fire. It’ll only take a few minutes and put an extra $10 or $20 in your pocket.

Amazon No Longer Offers 2-Day Prime Shipping (Here's What To Do About It)

Call Them Up and Ask For a 1-Month Refund

When I have a problem with Amazon I usually start a live chat session as it’s easier to say exactly what I want to say.

BUT…for the first time ever, I recommend actually calling them at 1-(888) 280-4331 and say, “Why don’t I get 2-day Prime shipping anymore?”

I tried doing this via Live Chat and it just went in circles due to what I’m guessing was a language barrier.

At this point, give them your zip code and ask them to run it through their system to find out for sure whether your address qualifies for 2-day shipping.

Most addresses do indeed qualify for 2-day Prime shipping.

If your address does qualify, then you probably already know the EXACT reason why you’re not getting your packages within 2 days.

It’s because Amazon can’t hold up their end of the bargain and they should pay for it.

This is when you politely ask for a 1-month refund on your Prime membership (approximately $10) because Amazon can’t hold up their end of the bargain.

I did this recently via a phone call to their customer service department and it took me all of about 5 minutes to score the $10 refund.

There was ZERO hesitation from the rep I talked with and I think they are trained to hand out this refund for those who politely ask for it.

Note: My family orders from Amazon at least 1-2 times per week and I’m not sure if that played a role in getting the 1-month refund, but in either case, it’s definitely worth a shot.

PRO TIP: AIM HIGH & ASK FOR EVEN MORE

From the comments section, several Amazon Prime members were actually given a $20 “inconvenience credit”.

Since we we know that a $20 credit is on the table, you might as well ask for it. You stand a decent chance of them giving it to you, and if they don’t just try again later with a different CSR.

Hold Amazon’s Feet to the Fire

I realize Amazon’s been hit by unprecedented demand in recent months, but let’s not forget they are one of the richest companies in the world.

Now that the economy and stores have opened back up in most of the country, the demand for online shopping has been greatly reduced.

Yet Amazon still can’t figure it out and solve their order backlog issues.

Originally, Amazon wanted to blame it on the pandemic and now they claim it’s 2-days from when the order leaves the warehouse giving them the green light to blame delivery services and bad weather.

I’d have no problem buying that argument back in 2021…BUT NOT NOW.

It’s my opinion that Amazon was losing money on the 2-day shipping guarantee and is using the current situation as a handy way to get rid of the fast shipping guarantee altogether.

PRO TIP: TIME TO LOOK AT OTHER OPTIONS

Fortunately Amazon is the not the only company offering free shipping with guaranteed 2-day delivery.

Notably, take a close look at a Walmart+ membership. For $98 a year (30-day free trial), you get free shipping with no minimum and most items are either next day delivery or 2-day. You also get free delivery from your local Walmart with a $35 minimum along with 10¢ cents/gallon savings at gas stations including Exxon and Mobil.

And it’s no surprise that the prices at Walmart are typically better than Amazon.

Sidenote: My wife is a Kindergarten teacher and she came home the other day telling me that many of her colleagues have stitched from Prime to Walmart+ and they couldn’t be happier. Very anecdotal I realize, but I think the momentum is building.

I’d be SHOCKED if 2-Day Prime shipping ever came back at this point.

So the bottom line is get your $10 refund NOW before they aren’t so generous.

The customer service rep also told me that MANY people are calling to cancel Prime, she said she had already cancelled over 50 memberships in the past couple days.

Here’s what a chat rep told me when I asked him if Prime members were complaining about the issue:

Amazon Chat

PRO TIP: TRY AN AMAZON BUSINESS ACCOUNT

Thanks to reader Joseph, who commented recently letting us know that his Amazon Business account has been delivering in 2-days since last September. The interesting part is that his “regular Prime account” is stuck at 4-7 days for delivery.

Since an Amazon business account is FREE to join, and also gives you quantity discounts, setting up an account could be worth a shot. Also, in case you were wondering, he said his business is not COVID related in the slightest.

Prime 2-Day Shipping Has Turned Into 5-Day Delivery

The reason that 2-day Prime shipping has turned into 5, 6, or even 7-day shipping has nothing to do with UPS or the USPS.

It falls 100% on Amazon as they now say that the “2-day shipping guarantee” is from when they actually process your order and get it in the mail.

So if it takes them a couple days to box it up and ship it out, then you’ll get it delivered to your home in about 5 days on average.

If you’re like me, the main reason you joined Prime and paid $139/year was for the 2-day shipping, so this is KIND OF A BIG DEAL.

Ask the Reader: Are you a Prime member? If so, when was the last time Amazon delivered something to you in 2 days?

When I hear about everyone here getting their stuff within 5 to 7 days, I have to say I’m feeling pretty envious. Not that I don’t want to get what I paid for with Prime and have them actually ship something in 2 or 3 days, but every single order I placed over the past year for items that Amazon sold, were in stock and shipped by Amazon didn’t ship for two weeks. And I do mean ship, as in, it takes 2 weeks to leave their warehouse. Then it takes about 5 days for UPS to get it to me if I’m lucky, sometimes 7. So as a prime member, on average, all items are arriving at about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. And yes, it all began with Covid and there was a gradual slowdown, but now it’s slower than ever and the options for 1, 2, or prime day delivery are all gone from my checkout. No matter what type of product I add to my cart, all in stock and fulfilled by Amazon, they all say the estimated time to ship is two weeks out.

I’ve heard about 20 different excuses, all that don’t make sense. I’ve definitely been lied to as well. I tried chat today instead of a phone call and they bounced me to 4 different people on there until they had someone call me. This guy kept me on the phone for 2 hours! All the same varied ” guesses ” as to why I can’t receive anything faster than 2-3 weeks when I always had stuff arrive on time before ( a prime member from the start ). Nothing makes sense. I’ve lived at this same address the entire time I’ve had an Amazon account. It all changed after the pandemic hit and it never changed back. I asked if they could refund as suggested here and after those 2 hours on the phone he said all he could do was give me a credit of 10 bucks. While he was allegedly processing this credit, he hung up on me. I won’t hold my breath waiting for that credit, but I will not be renewing prime in February, that is for sure. I’d get the same shipping speed as a non paying customer. I’m thinking my next move is to contact the BBB because it’s more than just the fact that they are ripping me off and not providing the service they contracted for but also all the previous calls, excuses and lies. I should not have to go through this just to get what I paid for.

The part that frustrates me is we moved from one side of our metro area to more middle. So we cut the distance in half between our old home and the Amazon facility most stuff is shipped from. Our new address is a week out delivery but if I change address in the checkout portal to our old one it turns it into overnight or same day eligible.

Thanks for the tip. They would only give me a $10 discount. Better than nothing. I think they are consolidating shipments, especially to small towns away from city centers. Which is cool, but that saves Amazon money and that is not what I paid for.

Damian

Do my shopping at Lowes now unfortunately. Don’t have time to wait for this crap.

Sarah Thompson

Time to give the other Evil Empire your money — Walmart was not only faster but cheaper for same exact items. Shucks.

6 days Prime shipping? Ha. I never get my stuff any earlier than 7 days. With my last 4 Amazon direct orders, it took them 4-5 business days just to mail them.

Their CS chat is useless and rude. All they’ll respond with is, “would you like to cancel your Prime membership?” I say no, I’d like my 2-day Prime shipping back, and they disconnect.

I won’t be renewing, that’s for sure.

Jimmy

I just used their live chat and just kept insisting on getting a refund and credit and they gave me $40.

Kailey

Thanks for the tip! Called and followes your steps, being kind but adamant and they offered a 25% refund on my prime subscription. Being a teacher, the whole point of prime was to order things and get them fast and they’re not delivering that anymore.

thanks for posting this information. I too called today, and a nice woman from India heard my rant, and offered a $30.00 promotional refund due to my trouble. They “will send an email confirming that the are correcting this shipping problem”. Everyone should call and complain, this is so absurd given the business they now have due to COVID. Good luck, Mary

I was told by 2 Amazon Drivers that they are being sent home early some days and given additional days off due to work load. They way I shop… that’s BS!!! I normally have Amazon delivering 3-4 times a week. There isn’t something up; maybe trying to cut costs.

Robert Hutchinson

Wal-Mart can deliver in 1-3 days for 5.99 or free over $35.

Pamela A Martin

Walmart absolutely does not deliver in two days. They use a company called On Trac for shipping and they have delivery delays every time I order, which is a lot! At least in AZ. I have spent countless hours trying to get my 2 day deliveries straightened out but to no avail. It’s beyond frustrating! The prices are better at Walmart for everyday items like allergy medication and and TP than at Amazon which is why I started ordering from them, especially with their 2-3 day delivery promise. I’m frustrated with both companies with whom I’m paying for a service that I’m not receiving.

Jamie Cole

I never paid for a Prime membership because when I would do the free trials I never got my deliveries when promised. I didn’t expect that to change after paying for the service. I’m sorry people who paid for Prime aren’t getting the service they paid for.

Please everyone do remember though, when you call customer service (anywhere) you are not even almost close to talking to the powers that are responsible for your bad service. You are talking to the buffers these executives hire to hide behind to keep from having to personally deal with your dissatisfaction. Unfortunately some of these customer service reps are truly powerless in honoring your refund requests because these kinds of decisions are just not up to them.

Please be polite when you call, and ask to speak to a higher authority if the person who answers the phone can’t give you a refund or the satisfaction you request.

JENED

I didn’t even bother calling (read this article too late) … I just canceled today. What’s the point anymore. I’ll keep the $12 a month and use it elsewhere.

Holly

Called today and they had ZERO problem with cancelling my membership with a FULL refund since they can no longer offer the 2 day shipping. In the email I received with cancelling my membership it looks like I still have my prime benefits until February still. We will see if I get the full refund like they promised or still have prime access.

Ashley Perkins

When I called and complained I was offered $10. Because I laughed at them and told them I felt like it was an insult they connected me with a supervisor. She was kind and offered me a refund for half a year. $53 and change. I was surprised and happy. I’m using my refund to buy a Walmart subscription. I now can have grocery deliveries daily and 2-day Fed-Ex shipping. Amazon can be replaced as easily as it was to start.
I will not renew Amazon.

Bruce

Prime memberships net Amazon $2.38B/ year (200 million members X $119). Not bad profit for no service as promised.

Jeff C

They offered me $5, what a joke. My last several orders have all been a week or more delivery times, and then some have been a day or 2 later than that. I had one order that was to be delivered 2 days ago, show up today via special delivery by the post master himself. Pathetic Amazon. Have cancelled my Prime, and will just get the standard free shipping once I hit the purchase threshold.

I’m so frustrated. Every order I make with Amazon I have to get on with customer service and ask them why it’s not being sent out 2day. I had 3 orders last week that was sent out USPS. Somehow last month when I noticed the tracking number was USPS I called and complained. They changed where my order was coming from and sent it overnight. I’m so over it. I wish there was some sort of class action that could be taken against them. It’s not so much the fact that the package is coming later as it is that the dishonest business practices. I shouldn’t have to hold their hand and make sure they uphold their agreement. Frustrating.

Randy

Hard to get anywhere in the USA with these people since most of them seem to operate out of another planet…East India my guess. Yes, a class action should be filed and I’m looking into it!

Ren

It worked via chat! I’ll continue this! as they credited me $10

Garret

My opinion is that Amazon is delaying fulfilling orders immediately and using the time to consolidate orders (ship) to save money. Ordered 13 Prime items at various times of the week and suspiciously they will all will arrive on Friday, an Amazon Day delivery day. Sounds like ripe for a class action.

Pood

I took my prime money and opened up a Walmart account. As much as I hate Walmart I hate amazon more. I have been a loyal customer for over a decade and this is the way they treat me. Walmart can get most anything Amazon can get.
