Amazon No Longer Offers 2-Day Prime Shipping (Here’s What To Do About It)

Have you noticed that Amazon doesn’t deliver on their 2-day Prime Shipping anymore? It’s actually not even close for my address and I’ve had to return stuff to Amazon as I don’t need it by the time the package shows up. Anything that I want to buy today (a Monday) won’t be delivered until Sunday at the earliest. I tested this on a bunch of different shopping categories and made sure it was all products sold and shipped directly by Amazon, and none could be delivered before Sunday, 6 days from NOW. But alas, not all hope is lost, here’s what you should do to hold Amazon’s feet to the fire. It’ll only take a few minutes and put an extra $10 or $20 in your pocket.

Amazon No Longer Offers 2-Day Prime Shipping (Here's What To Do About It)

Call Them Up and Ask For a 1-Month Refund

When I have a problem with Amazon I usually start a live chat session as it’s easier to say exactly what I want to say.

BUT…for the first time ever, I recommend actually calling them at 1-(888) 280-4331 and say, “Why don’t I get 2-day Prime shipping anymore?”

I tried doing this via Live Chat and it just went in circles due to what I’m guessing was a language barrier.

At this point, give them your zip code and ask them to run it through their system to find out for sure whether your address qualifies for 2-day shipping.

Most addresses do indeed qualify for 2-day Prime shipping.

If your address does qualify, then you probably already know the EXACT reason why you’re not getting your packages within 2 days.

It’s because Amazon can’t hold up their end of the bargain and they should pay for it.

This is when you politely ask for a 1-month refund on your Prime membership (approximately $10) because Amazon can’t hold up their end of the bargain.

I did this recently via a phone call to their customer service department and it took me all of about 5 minutes to score the $10 refund.

There was ZERO hesitation from the rep I talked with and I think they are trained to hand out this refund for those who politely ask for it.

Note: My family orders from Amazon at least 1-2 times per week and I’m not sure if that played a role in getting the 1-month refund, but in either case, it’s definitely worth a shot.

PRO TIP: AIM HIGH & ASK FOR EVEN MORE

From the comments section, several Amazon Prime members were actually given a $20 “inconvenience credit”. Since we we know that a $20 credit is on the table, you might as well ask for it. You stand a decent chance of them giving it to you, and if they don’t just try again later with a different CSR.

Hold Amazon’s Feet to the Fire

I realize Amazon’s been hit by unprecedented demand in recent months, but let’s not forget they are one of the richest companies in the world.

Now that the economy and stores have opened back up in most of the country, the demand for online shopping has been greatly reduced.

Yet Amazon still can’t figure it out and solve their order backlog issues.

What ticks me off the most is Amazon wants to blame it on the pandemic and increased demand in online shopping.

I’d have no problem buying that argument back in March, April or May of 2020…BUT NOT NOW.

It’s my opinion that Amazon was losing money on the 2-day shipping guarantee and is using the current situation as a handy way to get rid of the fast shipping guarantee altogether.

I’d be SHOCKED if 2-Day Prime shipping ever came back at this point.

So the bottom line is get your $10 refund NOW before they aren’t so generous.

The customer service rep also told me that MANY people are calling to cancel Prime, she said she had already cancelled over 50 memberships in the past couple days.

Here’s what a chat rep told me when I asked him if Prime members were complaining about the issue:

Amazon Chat

PRO TIP: TRY AN AMAZON BUSINESS ACCOUNT

Thanks to reader Joseph, who commented recently letting us know that his Amazon Business account has been delivering in 2-days since last September. The interesting part is that his “regular Prime account” is stuck at 4-7 days for delivery. Since an Amazon business account is FREE to join, and also gives you quantity discounts, setting up an account could be worth a shot. Also, in case you were wondering, he said his business is not COVID related in the slightest.

Prime 2-Day Shipping Has Turned Into 5-Day Delivery

The reason that 2-day Prime shipping has turned into 5, 6, or even 7-day shipping has nothing to do with UPS or the USPS.

It falls 100% on Amazon as they now say that the “2-day shipping guarantee” is from when they actually process your order and get it in the mail.

So if it takes them a couple days to box it up and ship it out, then you’ll get it delivered to your home in about 5 days on average.

If you’re like me, the main reason you joined Prime and paid $139/year was for the 2-day shipping, so this is KIND OF A BIG DEAL.

Ask the Reader: Are you a Prime member? If so, when was the last time Amazon delivered something to you in 2 days?

I also called amazon to complain today. They told me the slow shipping was due to the pandemic. I grabbed 25 items from my ‘buy it again’ list and put them in my cart, and every singe item showed more than 7 days delivery when I previously ordered them they were all 2 day shipping. Frustrating.

I don’t care about Amazon Prime video or music I just want 2 day shipping – what am I paying for? If I paid shipping I would break even anyway. The shipping time is getting insane now – Just ordered a bunch of stuff (all labeled ‘PRIME’) and I wont see it for over a week and I ordered in the middle of the week before 3pm and live in California.

Davey

Remember when amazon would let you pay like $3 extra and you could get 1 day shipping… I miss this so much. 🙁

I live 55 miles from the Jacksonville Florida fulfillment center. In the past I was getting some orders the next day, when I ordered in the early morning. Yes…it’s taking 7 days now. Some items coming from Atlanta is taking up to 2 weeks. I did not hesitate canceling prime. I now use Target as anything over $35 ships free and usually arrives in 3 days even for items not stocked in my local store. Also, any stocked item can be ordered for same day pickup…😎

I called the number and was told that 2-day shipping only applies to items that are shipped from facilities close enough to get it to you in 2 days. I commented that the number of items that are actually shipped in two days seems to be shrinking and asked if that was correct. The agent said “yes.” So why are we still paying for Prime???

They lie big time, I live about 30 minutes from a warehouse in port wentworth GA, use to all the time next day from that warehouse, now 5 days before its shipped and its always from across country like TX, or somewhere, and they send it via UPS and they send it via 2day sometimes the lable says next day. use to see prime vans all the time in this area now they don’t come out here.

I recently moved 1200 miles from home (SE Michigan). I now live in a Rural area and there are no Amazon DCs within about 200 miles of here. I understand this adds to shipping time but it’s now at 10 days. I’ve started buying less and less from them as a result. And I’ve started seeing their prices are not as cheap or cheaper than the competition anymore too.

I’ve been buying from Amazon since 2006. They had some Hella good deals back then. I can literally find the same items for less, including their shipping fees AND it arrives days earlier than Amazon says on the product page. I’m about done with Amazon. I’ll try that business account in a couple months before canceling it.

Amazon’s new strategy is to move out the delivery date that you see when you place the order. Everything that I ordered on Saturday said that it would be delivered on Thursday. Previously, if I placed order on Saturday, delivery would be on Tuesday.

Everyone appears to be confused on the real reason. That CEO that took over is a wall street type and only cares about one thing, quarterly earnings. Typical cost cutting going on, they reported it already. They are no longer just customer friendly, now they are wall street mostly friendly. When companies start that, there is very little R&D going on or expansion. Also its rather companies start start going downhill when they start that. Amazon has peaked already it appears and the far apart is beginning. They say they are to big to fail, well I guess we will see.

But on the flip side I notice others like Target and Best Buy is coping their dates. Which Amazon is the only reason shipping time ever improved, so I guess until they are replaced its back to the old ways. But yeah, no need for Prime really unless one loves their video service. The fact things come in early once and awhile means nothing, because I never know if they will or not. So I just buy elsewhere on purpose plenty of times after seeing their delivery time. But mostly just look local and instacart.

Amazon just wants bigger profits which they are already high, missing earnings means nothing except for stock price. But the greedy cannot get enough, and media leaves that part out.

Derek

Just cancelled today. It used to be next day shipping for me but now most items need at least a week.

11/15/22; just did chat with Amazon rep. Their reply to why 2 day shipping isn’t happening was “this isn’t how we like to handle valuable customers.” Stayed on point that this didn’t answer my question and insisted on an explanation or was cancelling Prime. Was going to ask for $10 prime refund & $20 inconvenience fee as suggested but decided to push the issue a bit further. Amazon just issued me an $80 credit.

Everything I’m shopping or looking to repurchase is suddenly (within the last week) 4+ days to receive near the dreadful Portland, Or. They offered me a $5 credit which equates to 2 weeks of membership….

You can no longer ask to be transferred to a US representative either. The lady I just talked to told me that they updated their systems and took away the option to be transferred. Amazon is a bunch of crooks.

Don’t waste your time with the online chat, definitely call them. Online chat ran me around in circles before finally saying they can’t offer a credit. I had her have someone call me (within minutes), and explained my displeasure with the delays in shipping, post-COVID. I told her the only reason I’m cancelling is because of them not fulfilling a service that I paid for, and I would like to be credited for the remainder of my yearly subscription (only 1.5 months left). I told her I think a billion dollar corporation can handle a $15-$20 credit after my years of subscribing and thousands of dollars in purchases. She sent me an email confirming a $50 credit. I’m still going to cancel before my renewal date. No 2 day shipping and no more unlimited skips on Music. I’m not paying for Prime just to watch TNF — I’ll go to my girlfriend’s house.

Stephanie

My deliveries are taking either 24 hours, or at least 3 days. There is no in between. It makes no sense. And it should be noted….I live 8 minutes from the distribution warehouse. No sense.

I use Subscribe and Save, which is no longer saving much as most of the items drop off the program soon after I subscribe, and my only option is more expensive replacements. Also, you would think that with a consistent ship date and order Amazon would be able to get a shipment put together and out the door to arrive on schedule. Nope! Prime isn’t so much anymore.
