Amazon No Longer Offers 2-Day Prime Shipping (Here’s What To Do About It)

Have you noticed that Amazon doesn’t deliver on their 2-day Prime Shipping anymore? It’s actually not even close for my address and I’ve had to return stuff to Amazon as I don’t need it by the time the package shows up. Anything that I want to buy today (a Monday) won’t be delivered until Sunday at the earliest. I tested this on a bunch of different shopping categories and made sure it was all products sold and shipped directly by Amazon, and none could be delivered before Sunday, 6 days from NOW. But alas, not all hope is lost, here’s what you should do to hold Amazon’s feet to the fire. It’ll only take a few minutes and put an extra $10 or $20 in your pocket.

Amazon No Longer Offers 2-Day Prime Shipping (Here's What To Do About It)

Call Them Up and Ask For a 1-Month Refund

When I have a problem with Amazon I usually start a live chat session as it’s easier to say exactly what I want to say.

BUT…for the first time ever, I recommend actually calling them at 1-(888) 280-4331 and say, “Why don’t I get 2-day Prime shipping anymore?”

I tried doing this via Live Chat and it just went in circles due to what I’m guessing was a language barrier.

At this point, give them your zip code and ask them to run it through their system to find out for sure whether your address qualifies for 2-day shipping.

Most addresses do indeed qualify for 2-day Prime shipping.

If your address does qualify, then you probably already know the EXACT reason why you’re not getting your packages within 2 days.

It’s because Amazon can’t hold up their end of the bargain and they should pay for it.

This is when you politely ask for a 1-month refund on your Prime membership (approximately $10) because Amazon can’t hold up their end of the bargain.

I did this recently via a phone call to their customer service department and it took me all of about 5 minutes to score the $10 refund.

There was ZERO hesitation from the rep I talked with and I think they are trained to hand out this refund for those who politely ask for it.

Note: My family orders from Amazon at least 1-2 times per week and I’m not sure if that played a role in getting the 1-month refund, but in either case, it’s definitely worth a shot.

PRO TIP: AIM HIGH & ASK FOR EVEN MORE

From the comments section, several Amazon Prime members were actually given a $20 “inconvenience credit”. Since we we know that a $20 credit is on the table, you might as well ask for it. You stand a decent chance of them giving it to you, and if they don’t just try again later with a different CSR.

Hold Amazon’s Feet to the Fire

I realize Amazon’s been hit by unprecedented demand in recent months, but let’s not forget they are one of the richest companies in the world.

Now that the economy and stores have opened back up in most of the country, the demand for online shopping has been greatly reduced.

Yet Amazon still can’t figure it out and solve their order backlog issues.

What ticks me off the most is Amazon wants to blame it on the pandemic and increased demand in online shopping.

I’d have no problem buying that argument back in March, April or May of 2020…BUT NOT NOW.

It’s my opinion that Amazon was losing money on the 2-day shipping guarantee and is using the current situation as a handy way to get rid of the fast shipping guarantee altogether.

I’d be SHOCKED if 2-Day Prime shipping ever came back at this point.

So the bottom line is get your $10 refund NOW before they aren’t so generous.

The customer service rep also told me that MANY people are calling to cancel Prime, she said she had already cancelled over 50 memberships in the past couple days.

Here’s what a chat rep told me when I asked him if Prime members were complaining about the issue:

Amazon Chat

PRO TIP: TRY AN AMAZON BUSINESS ACCOUNT

Thanks to reader Joseph, who commented recently letting us know that his Amazon Business account has been delivering in 2-days since last September. The interesting part is that his “regular Prime account” is stuck at 4-7 days for delivery. Since an Amazon business account is FREE to join, and also gives you quantity discounts, setting up an account could be worth a shot. Also, in case you were wondering, he said his business is not COVID related in the slightest.

Prime 2-Day Shipping Has Turned Into 5-Day Delivery

The reason that 2-day Prime shipping has turned into 5, 6, or even 7-day shipping has nothing to do with UPS or the USPS.

It falls 100% on Amazon as they now say that the “2-day shipping guarantee” is from when they actually process your order and get it in the mail.

So if it takes them a couple days to box it up and ship it out, then you’ll get it delivered to your home in about 5 days on average.

If you’re like me, the main reason you joined Prime and paid $139/year was for the 2-day shipping, so this is KIND OF A BIG DEAL.

Ask the Reader: Are you a Prime member? If so, when was the last time Amazon delivered something to you in 2 days?

Whoever is running this company does not realize that it is the fast shipping that gets people purchasing. I just canceled an order over 500 bucks because it just sits there and if you order more than one item in an order you never get a tracking number. I got on the actual manufacturers website and placed the order…free shipping without paying 139 bucks’ year. They are the richest company in the world, and they are blowing it for me anyway. Greed can destroy a company over night. I have lost faith in them. Also, I went to Walmart today and got the other things I needed. I own three businesses and do not have a lot of time to go shopping but I will change my schedule to do just that.

I have started ordering stuff from Walmart since I’m a plus member because of grocery delivery. Even stuff that is not in a local store is delivered in 1 or 2 days. I ordered some cat stuff that isn’t available in my local stores this evening and it is showing it will be delivered tomorrow.

This has become absolutely annoying especially as I too signed up just for quick shipping.. and to top this off listen here… I live in a community with community mail boxes. My post office is 1 hour round trip, open from 10am to 5 pm and Saturday depending on how they feel lol. Amazon used ups and before covid I got 2 day delivery to my house ups. Now, they send it usps and sometimes when they use ups , ups drops it at the post office!! Walmart online as well use fedex that also drops it at post office. I’m a cancer patient that can’t drive and have come to depend on online home delivery. Why would usps even allow a contact to Walmart or amazon.Amazon.. wen have you seen a mailman lugging boxes lol. It’s terrible.

I won’t complain about the shipping. On their info page they clearly state that the 2-day shipping is from the day you place your order to the day it ships. I’m okay with that since shipping is FREE, which saves me a ton of money,…enough to pay for the Prime membership. For Christmas I bought many items to be sent to Germany, no shipping fees ! Amazon is my first go-to shopping place and I get my moneys worth with Prime.

rob klein

smh. So gullible. Shipping is not free, Judy. It’s $140/yr plus the additional costs built into the purchase price. For the past many years one can almost always find an item cheaper at another retailer if they shop around. Amazon once had the reliably best price. No more.

Andrew

It is a big deal, why pay the prime fee if you can just buy $35 or more and get free shipping. This was the prime selling point. 2 day shipping”

Judy works for Amazon, her real name is Mohammed Judy Achbadi LMFAO

I just placed an order today 1/6/2023. The arrival date is a full 10 days from today on 1/16/23. The last time I pulled up an item from an auto order and selected the “I need it sooner” it still delayed dilevery to the auto ship date. So I now have that arriving twice too late. So much for Prime.

Aaron

Can you join Walmart plus and shop there like you would on Amazon and let us know how that is? That would be a cool comparison report… I’m seriously considering switching especially since Walmarts price point is so good.

China White

When I order from Walmart sometimes it comes fast and sometimes it takes over two weeks

Suzy

I dropped Amazon Prime and joined Walmart + a year ago. When the product states that it is free 2-day shipping, it always comes in 2 days. However, the majority of products are not shipped by Walmart, and they say “3+ days.” Those ones take the same amount of time as Amazon- possibly a little faster than Amazon because they are 3rd party sellers who want to get good reviews. Free home delivery from a local Walmart store is a good perk with Walmart +, if you have one nearby.

Brittany Stough

I have both and just canceled my prime membership because I can get almost all items I would get on Amazon from Walmart with much faster shipping since this change has occurred.

Jane

Would not recommend. I placed a $1800 order on Walmart in June. The largest item for $950 arrived horribly damaged. Walmart sent a freight company (it was a large item) to pick it up. I received no paperwork and no email confirmation. Called to confirm my refund. Was told it was marked as picked up and that my refund would arrive in 2 weeks. I have been calling them every two weeks since June, and had to re-explain my issue every single time. No notes, no way to reach whoever I’d spoken to before, just an absolute circus side show. After months of headache, was just told this month (January) that because the freight company lost the item and no tracking number was given to me at the time of pick up, they can’t refund me. Unbelievable. For all of Amazon’s problems, they have at least always refunded immediately. Would not work with Walmart again.

Wow
Thank you!!!

Michael

I rarely get 2 day before they ship usually it’s 3+, I remember when I used to be able to order a part on Tuesday and get it by Friday.. now if I order on Monday I won’t get it till the next week on Tuesday or Wednesday.. crazy how they raise the price and reduce the service

Mith

I, too, have been a Prime member for over a decade, joining for the two day delivery. The past year, I have noticed that very rarely does something arrive in two days. It is to the point now that nothing arrives in two days. Many times items do not even ship in two days, but rather sits, in stock mind you, for several days before even being shipped. Amazon is not fulfilling the end of the bargain, and either it is manpower issues, which is an Amazon issue, and they are cutting corners and customer service to increase profit margins.

How many times have we seen it before, a company builds a good reputation for honoring promises, grows from that reputation…new leadership takes over and starts cutting corners in order to make their bottom line even better, and ruins the reputation that got them there in the first place.

This from a company that has literally invested billions in sorting centers and warehouses around that country.

Andy

Speaking to a representative thru the chat indeed works. I told them my last 2 prime orders weren’t delivered in 2 days but actually 4-6 depending on if a weekend is involved. The response I got was immediately a 5 dollar promo credit for each items without hesitation. Ok that works for me. My items aren’t end of the world items. When asked by the representative if I had any other issues I said yes I would like an explanation still why I wasn’t getting 2 day shipping. And my chat was then ended. I guess he or she couldn’t tell me that or didn’t want to. Great article I was thinking the exact same b4 reading it.

Gary

Unless you really love prime video, The prime account is useless. $14.99 per month is NOT free shipping, and two day shipping is simply a lie. At least a week for my orders to arrive now. My prime membership ends day after tomorrow, I cancelled and they suddenly have time to email me everyday to beg me not to cancel when they were almost impossible to get a hold of when I had issues. Don’t go! Don’t go! Surely you jest. Au Revoir.

Gin

You can cancel your $139 annual Amazon membership and still get packages shipped free within a week which is what we are getting now anyway. Save yourself $139. I cancelled my Amazon Prime and can still order and receive the stuff in the same amount of time that I was paying for before.

J R

I have seen a few news report recently saying they are laying off employees so I wonder if that is also part of the equation. 🤔

Beth

I spoke with a CS rep this morning @Amazon and he let me know as of an article published on Dec 2, 2022 Amazon no longer offers 2 day shipping at any location. Even though I have a screen shot today, through my app of 2 day prime being part of my membership! It was a huge part for the $$ it costs for membership and is no longer worth it to me. Walmart+ is way faster now yet less variety. It’s unfortunate for Amazon… but when we moved to AL the shipping times are averaging 2-3 weeks! It’s insane. Thank you for this article.

Kevin

You can go to the membership page today and it advertising next day and 2 day as a benefit of the membership. They are just lying to us now.

DJRC

Since Amazon jacked up the membership and slowed shipping to 5 to 7 days I have been avoiding efficiency and ordering many many small items separate from each other making Amazon ship many more packages to get merchandise to me. They’re gonna jack with me, I’ll give it right back to them with excessive shipping.

Elise

I do appreciate Amazon Prime and here on the coast of Maine we’re at a distance from big stores so we order a lot. I did up to a couple of months ago always get 2 and sometimes 1 day delivery. Now it’s a week and I was hoping it was because of the holidays, and it’ll pass and go back to the 2 days. One thing that has helped is if you go into your order before it ships, the details tab, there they sometimes offer a faster shipping which they say will adjust your price but doesn’t because you’re Prime. It speeded up 2 of my deliveries. One I requested the 2 day ship when it’s ready to ship and it still took the same amount if time, more than a week.
I can’t be angry. I can’t help feeling that Amazon has spoiled me expecting my delivery of tea (or whatever) delivered within days. and they’ve done such a wonderful job these past hard years getting so much to me without risking our healths (we’re elderly). I choose to believe it will improve, the delivery time. And I’m too thankful for them to complain.

Jazmynn

I just got off the phone with Amazon – thanks for the tip because it worked! I got a month refund ($7.48 – I pay $6.99/mo. apparently) to my debit card and then a $15 credit that I can use on any purchases that are sold and shipped by amazon.com – I will take it! I did have to ask for a supervisor because the first rep I talked to kept saying he could not do that at his level. I said well transfer me to someone that can please, he said he didn’t think anyone would be able to do that so I said transfer me to your supervisor please. Supervisor came on after a short hold – I explained what I wanted and no problem, did it without a qualm. I asked for a refund and an inconvenience credit because I haven’t had anything delivered in 2 days in a long time. He did say the 2 days from the day it ships thing and then he looked at my recent orders and said “oh it was 3 days so that is still late.” And that was one of the fast ones. There are plenty that took longer than that. Definitely do this! I will most likely cancel my Prime, but there are some things that I watch on Prime Video so I will figure that out and go from there. Thanks again!

We moved from a city to rural and our running joke is weather forecasts and Amazon delivery dates for this region are “might” events. Today it might rain and our order might arrive.

Walmart isn’t any better. The problem here is the last mile (or 6). USPS MIGHT deliver a package today or tomorrow. Like all couriers and all businesses, there is a major labor shortage. Our grocery stores regularly run out of common items for the same reason. (No carrots today they’ll be here on Tuesday.)
