Amazon No Longer Offers 2-Day Prime Shipping (Here’s What To Do About It)

Have you noticed that Amazon doesn’t deliver on their 2-day Prime Shipping anymore? It’s actually not even close for my address and I’ve had to return stuff to Amazon as I don’t need it by the time the package shows up. Anything that I want to buy today (a Monday) won’t be delivered until Sunday at the earliest. I tested this on a bunch of different shopping categories and made sure it was all products sold and shipped directly by Amazon, and none could be delivered before Sunday, 6 days from NOW. But alas, not all hope is lost, here’s what you should do to hold Amazon’s feet to the fire. It’ll only take a few minutes and put an extra $10 or $20 in your pocket.

Amazon No Longer Offers 2-Day Prime Shipping (Here's What To Do About It)

Call Them Up and Ask For a 1-Month Refund

When I have a problem with Amazon I usually start a live chat session as it’s easier to say exactly what I want to say.

BUT…for the first time ever, I recommend actually calling them at 1-(888) 280-4331 and say, “Why don’t I get 2-day Prime shipping anymore?”

I tried doing this via Live Chat and it just went in circles due to what I’m guessing was a language barrier.

At this point, give them your zip code and ask them to run it through their system to find out for sure whether your address qualifies for 2-day shipping.

Most addresses do indeed qualify for 2-day Prime shipping.

If your address does qualify, then you probably already know the EXACT reason why you’re not getting your packages within 2 days.

It’s because Amazon can’t hold up their end of the bargain and they should pay for it.

This is when you politely ask for a 1-month refund on your Prime membership (approximately $10) because Amazon can’t hold up their end of the bargain.

I did this recently via a phone call to their customer service department and it took me all of about 5 minutes to score the $10 refund.

There was ZERO hesitation from the rep I talked with and I think they are trained to hand out this refund for those who politely ask for it.

Note: My family orders from Amazon at least 1-2 times per week and I’m not sure if that played a role in getting the 1-month refund, but in either case, it’s definitely worth a shot.

PRO TIP: AIM HIGH & ASK FOR EVEN MORE

From the comments section, several Amazon Prime members were actually given a $20 “inconvenience credit”. Since we we know that a $20 credit is on the table, you might as well ask for it. You stand a decent chance of them giving it to you, and if they don’t just try again later with a different CSR.

Hold Amazon’s Feet to the Fire

I realize Amazon’s been hit by unprecedented demand in recent months, but let’s not forget they are one of the richest companies in the world.

Now that the economy and stores have opened back up in most of the country, the demand for online shopping has been greatly reduced.

Yet Amazon still can’t figure it out and solve their order backlog issues.

What ticks me off the most is Amazon wants to blame it on the pandemic and increased demand in online shopping.

I’d have no problem buying that argument back in March, April or May of 2020…BUT NOT NOW.

It’s my opinion that Amazon was losing money on the 2-day shipping guarantee and is using the current situation as a handy way to get rid of the fast shipping guarantee altogether.

I’d be SHOCKED if 2-Day Prime shipping ever came back at this point.

So the bottom line is get your $10 refund NOW before they aren’t so generous.

The customer service rep also told me that MANY people are calling to cancel Prime, she said she had already cancelled over 50 memberships in the past couple days.

Here’s what a chat rep told me when I asked him if Prime members were complaining about the issue:

PRO TIP: TRY AN AMAZON BUSINESS ACCOUNT

Thanks to reader Joseph, who commented recently letting us know that his Amazon Business account has been delivering in 2-days since last September. The interesting part is that his “regular Prime account” is stuck at 4-7 days for delivery. Since an Amazon business account is FREE to join, and also gives you quantity discounts, setting up an account could be worth a shot. Also, in case you were wondering, he said his business is not COVID related in the slightest.

Prime 2-Day Shipping Has Turned Into 5-Day Delivery

The reason that 2-day Prime shipping has turned into 5, 6, or even 7-day shipping has nothing to do with UPS or the USPS.

It falls 100% on Amazon as they now say that the “2-day shipping guarantee” is from when they actually process your order and get it in the mail.

So if it takes them a couple days to box it up and ship it out, then you’ll get it delivered to your home in about 5 days on average.

If you’re like me, the main reason you joined Prime and paid $139/year was for the 2-day shipping, so this is KIND OF A BIG DEAL.

Ask the Reader: Are you a Prime member? If so, when was the last time Amazon delivered something to you in 2 days?

I just called the number and spoke to a representative who also shared the same story it sounds like a few other people have heard which is that they have only ever offered two day shipping, they have never offered two day delivery. The rep went on to clarify that the actual time frame could be 5 days before you receive a package. I live downtown Toronto close to a number of Amazon warehouses and in some cases it is taking up to two weeks for packages to arrive (on items that state they are prime items, in stock). I mentioned to the rep that I wasn’t actually calling because I was upset about the delays, I was calling because I am upset that no communication was sent out about the delays to Prime members. The customer service rep actually told me “we didn’t think we needed to send out an email because it’s all over the news”. Which is a fair point (we hear about the warehouse closures due to covid out breaks all the time), however its a terrible customer service strategy. I get it, there is a global pandemic, everyone is experiencing delays and that is okay but just be transparent and communicate with your customers and you’re going to have a lot less angry people. They have chosen instead to do nothing and let the customer service reps field all of the angry calls. I love (loved) the convenience of amazon but every day they make it more difficult to support them.

My problem with the whole deal is that for me its 5 or 6 days for delivery but if log in under my mothers account who lives less than 5 miles away form me ( both Rural locations) her shipping on the exact same thing is still 2 days . No matter the item if I look today (Wednesday) it says delivery Monday but log into my mothers and it says Friday. Is amazon prioritizing my mothers 129 dollar prime membership over my 129 membership?

Nic Brown

Same for me and one of my relatives. I could ask him to order it and go to the next city and visit him and get it a whole lot sooner. And the fulfillment center that feeds both of us is 5 miles away from me north, while he’s south by 45 miles. It’s like WTELF

It’s a shame. My membership is up soon so at this point I will give it until then to see if 2 Day Shipping comes back but I am not that hopeful that it will. They still had pretty good delivery dates during the height of the pandemic, like 3-4 days max for 2 day items. . Now that it looks like we’re getting over the hump the delivery window has gotten even longer?
This reinterpretation of the meaning of 2 Day Shipping really irks me. You saw an item offering 2 Day shipping, it showed it would arrive 2 days from that day in the shopping cart! What do they mean all of a sudden it means it will ship in two days?! Why did they give a delivery date that is two days away for then? Unless they bring it back I will no longer have a Prime membership. I’m not getting any value for my money. $129 a year to get it at at snail’s pace? Would not be surprised it they took advantage of how much people got used to ordering online so they could just remove it and hope most customers would just say “That sucks” but not doing anything. Get ready for the possibility that they will introduce 2 Day DELIVERY…for an extra fee.
I’m not a self-centered SOB. I know that the pandemic greatly increased online shopping but if they had at the very least sent out a notice to the customers that there were going to be delays in the foreseeable future for x, y, z reasons I could be pretty understanding. Instead they just removed it and said absolutely nothing. Just expecting everyone to know because “it’s in the news.”

I got used to packages arriving quite late but —the pandemic! The other reason I liked prime was the videos included. But their movies have gone way downhill UNLESS you decide to rent or buy. The ones included with prime are old movies we’ve already seen or just terrible movies.

Nic Brown

Prime was sold to us for shipping. The movie is like asking us ‘what color packaging do you want?’ a perk, but not everyone wanted it. I’d give up the extra money they think I am paying for the videos just to get my shipping back.

Rima

Lol just find those movies online somewhere like solarmovies and prime exclusives are on there with hd quality

Melissa

They reuse to even give $10. I talked to 3 people. Wouldn’t budge. This is how it is now. They have some dumb excuse about the day you place the order And the day they can actually ship it. It’s bullshit and I told them it was completely understandable when the pandemic started. They did well at that time. Not now. Just pay attention

Norma Cooney

I know that here in Ontario, Canada a couple of their warehouses were closed in April for a couple of weeks because of COVID.in the warehouse. Still this aggravates me. They say 2 days shipping on the website but never comes in 2 days anymore. I just pay for prime monthly. .

Nic Brown

It’s been at least 2 months since I’ve been able to order anything in less than 5 days. It started where on Sundays the earliest I could get something was Friday, but if I went in on Monday I could get it on Wednesday. That happened for a week or two before it completely went to 5 days out on everything. Like you, I checked every category, even items that should be able to be delivered quickly and have large quantities in stock, but that I didn’t need. Everything was 5 days out.

Whenever I contacted Amazon, they’d give their copy and pasted party-line about their policies, and that it depends on the inventory at the local fulfillment center… There are 3 of those within 30 miles of me, and it’s hard to imagine they are all empty.

I could drive over, and pick it up in less than an hour, if they worked as a store, instead I am paying for Prime so I don’t have to leave, and a 2-day wait was fine if I didn’t need it now.

Bezos said that Amazon will fail – https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/15/bezos-tells-employees-one-day-amazon-will-fail-and-to-stay-hungry.html

I think it’s coming sooner rather than later.

Dwn2Tech

HA! Just saw this blog, and decided to test Amazon (US based). I ordered 3 items today (Wednesday) and it won’t arrive until next Monday using Prime…BS given the fullfillment center is .5 miles down the road…), but that has been beaten enough on this post. HOWEVER, after placing the order, I went back to each item immediately following the order confirmation in my email (5 minutes tops), which mind you each had a 10 hour window to order to receive it by Monday… all 3 now show earliest delivery is the following Tuesday with the same time window!
GoodBye 15 years of Prime…I’ll give my money to someone else than pay to be deceived! Thank you for posting this to make me aware!

Bill

Protest by ordering process the order then cancel because won’t arive on time. Their Algorithm will start to calculate all of the cancellations and it’ll draw attention hopefully they will respond!

John

My 2 day has become 6-7 day as well, but I was a frequent user of Amazon Same day delivery, this makes prime worse than useless for me

MTA1

The same thing just happened to my account. Contacted the customer service and they told me some it depends on the availability of some items. The problem is pretty much *ALL* the items that I browsed shows at least 4-5 days delivery date. Not sure what’s happening with their system, but I even used to have the same-day delivery option, so the fulfillment center must be close to where I live. Too bad because the reason I’m paying for Prime membership is because of that 2-day shipping.

warren

I called Amazon and gave them my thoughts and disappointments about losing the 2-day Prime perk and pointed out ythat Walmart still offers 2-day shipping so my (high) volume of order would got to Walmart first and then I would check. I did not ask for it but eventually they offered the $10 reimbursement to my credit card.

David

I’d bet that Walmart — and other merchants — will soon follow Amazon again and extend their delivery times. Amazon drives the marketplace.

Etain

I have noticed shipping delays as well, but in my area it only started happening on the regular as of May 2021. I order a lot of things on Amazon, but that is likely to change going forward. What really chaps my hide is that they refuse to cancel orders that have delayed shipping.

Sara

The crazier thing is I was getting faster deliveries even overnight and 2 days when Covid first started last year. Now that things are improving in our country Amazon Prime goes downhill. It makes no sense whatsoever. I have gotten a $13 refund the cost of 1 month prime. I am not happy. Every order lately has something wrong with it and takes nearly a week to arrive. Amazon should adjust their rates if they cannot hold up to their end of the bargain.

Jennifer

It’s 2 day shipping, not delivery. They use expedited shipping methods, but it’s after the order has been picked and prepared in the warehouse. By what I’ve been reading online, I think demand is so high they can’t prepare orders fast enough to keep up.

David

Time will tell if you’re right. But it has been 2-day delivery for years, even during peak holiday seasons. But, the pandemic could still be a factor. Personally, I think it’s a permanent downgrade with the pandemic being an excuse for a policy change. If I’m right, Amazon is likely watching the blowback closely and will accept a calculated number of cancelations, if they come out ahead with lower shipping costs. We’ll see…
