The Walmart Dress Code: Here’s Exactly How it ALL Works

If you’re about to start working at Walmart, or about to go for an interview, you’re probably curious about the Walmart dress code. Although Walmart is by no means a “fancy place”, they still have certain dress code guidelines that employees must follow. Fortunately there dress code is, for the most part, fairly flexible, here’s everything you need to know.

The Walmart Dress Code: Here's Exactly How it ALL Works

What Exactly is the Walmart Dress Code?

Walmart’s dress code is overall fairly flexible and comfortable.

Here’s a breakdown of their dress code (according to Walmart’s website):

1. All associates can wear ANY color of denim.

2. Employees can wear any color or pattern shirt.

3. All employees, including management, can wear sneakers.

Employees still must wear the classic Walmart vest and a name tag of course, but otherwise, the Walmart dress code is more relaxed than most other stores.

PRO TIP: DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC ATTIRE

Certain departments, such as the deli or bakery, may require additional safety gear like hairnets or gloves.

If you get hired in one of these departments, ensure you’re aware of and comply with these specific requirements to maintain safety and hygiene standards.

Some Jeans Are Okay

Walmart employees can wear jeans (of any color) any day of the week.

But keep in mind, your jeans CANNOT have any rips or holes in them.

You also CAN’T wear yoga pants or leggings to work.

WHAT ABOUT JEGGINGS?

While you cannot wear yoga pants to work, you CAN wear jeggings at Walmart. I’ve had several employees tell me that jeggings are fine and on the approved clothing list.

This makes sense as you really can’t tell the difference between jeans and jeggings unless you feel the material.

Any Color Denim is Fine

Employees can wear any color of denim.

So, whether you love a classic pair of blue jeans, or want to switch it up with some green or red jeans, any color will do.

A Blue Shirt is Not Required

Employees at Walmart can wear any color shirt.

Although employees used to have to wear ONLY a blue shirt, Walmart has since made changes so that now employees can wear any color or patterned shirt.

You CANNOT wear a tank top, halter top, or shirt with spaghetti straps.

PRO TIP: STANCE ON JEWELRY

While they allow employees to wear jewelry, I had a Walmart assistant manager tell me that it’s advisable to keep it “minimal and non-distracting”.

I was also told to avoid large or dangling pieces that could pose safety hazards, especially in roles involving machinery or physical tasks.

Some Employees Can Wear Shorts

Specifically, the only employees that are allowed to wear shorts are parking lot attendants and employees who work in the garden department, and that’s on a store-by-store basis.

Also, if you like capris, you’re in luck as Walmart is okay with ladies wearing them.

Walmart is Relaxed on Your Shirt

Walmart is fairly relaxed on the type of shirt you can wear to ensure you feel comfortable.

That being said, you obviously cannot wear any revealing or unprofessional, or any shirts that show evident signs of rips, display inappropriate language, are racist in nature, etc.

Therefore, when in doubt, you can always stick to your favorite solid colored t-shirt and be safe.

Shoes Must Be Closed Toe

Employees can essentially wear ANY shoes or sneakers that they feel comfortable in.

In other words, employees don’t necessarily have to wear formal shoes but they MUST be closed toe AND have a back on them (Thanks Pat for the tip!).

Employees can wear sneakers that offer much-needed comfort after long shifts standing and walking around the store.

WHAT ABOUT HOODIES AND SWEATPANTS?

No dice on either. While you can wear a sweatshirt that doesn’t have a hood, you can’t wear anything with a hood attached to it.

I was also told that some mangers are okay with you wearing a hood as long as you leave it tucked under your vest. Sweatpants not being allowed can’t be a surprise to anyone.

What Should I Wear to My Walmart Interview?

Business casual.

Although as a Walmart employee, you can wear virtually “anything” (given it is professional/ not too revealing or inappropriate), with interviews it’s likely best to take a more professional approach.

While there is no specific rule of what you can and cannot wear to a Walmart interview, here are some pointers on what you could wear to look and dress your best.

For example for men, consider wearing khakis and a regular buttoned-down or pullover.

For women, consider wearing dress pants and a blouse.

It’s best to be safe than sorry and dress the more business casual approach than looking like you just rolled out of bed.

Some Employees Can Wear a Hat

Most employees can wear hats, except cashiers.

The caveat is that the hat MUST be provided by Walmart.

Cashiers are NOT allowed to wear any sort of hat or headgear.

Employees that are not cashiers are only allowed to wear “baseball style” hats that Walmart provides.

PRO TIP: CULTURAL ATTIRE

If you require specific attire for cultural or religious reasons, discuss accommodations with your manager or HR department to ensure compliance with company policies while respecting your needs.

After talking to a Walmart assistant manager, here are 10 examples that you might have questions about:

  1. Hijabs or Headscarves: Muslim employees may request to wear a hijab as part of their religious practice. Walmart policies typically allow for this, provided it adheres to safety requirements.
  2. Turbans: Sikh employees may wear turbans as a part of their faith. These can be accommodated if they do not interfere with safety or job duties.
  3. Kippahs or Yarmulkes: Jewish employees might wear a kippah (yarmulke) as part of their religious observance. This is usually allowed as long as it complies with safety regulations.
  4. Beards for Religious Reasons: Some religions, such as Islam and Sikhism, may require men to maintain beards. These are typically accommodated unless a specific role requires facial coverings or other safety measures.
  5. Modest Clothing: Employees from various religious backgrounds, such as Orthodox Jews or Christians, might request to wear long skirts or dresses instead of pants as a form of modest attire and I was told that is completely fine.
  6. Special Garments for Prayer: Employees might request to wear garments that facilitate or accommodate prayer, such as shawls or specific loose-fitting attire, especially during breaks.
  7. Cultural Jewelry or Symbols: Religious necklaces, bracelets, or rings, such as a crucifix or a Star of David, may be worn as long as they comply with safety guidelines.
  8. Footwear Exceptions: Some religions require specific footwear (or the absence of it, such as in Jainism) for observance. Employees might request modifications or accommodations.
  9. Head Coverings for Modesty: In addition to hijabs or turbans, other head coverings, like Amish prayer caps or bandanas for Rastafarian practices, may be requested.
  10. Distinctive Cultural Attire: Certain employees might request to wear cultural clothing, like a saree or a dashiki, as an expression of cultural heritage and religious practice.

If you’re uncertain about any aspect of the dress code, don’t hesitate to ask for clarification to ensure you’re in compliance and to avoid potential issues.

Does Management Have to Wear “Dress Shoes” Only?

No.

Management doesn’t have to wear dress shoes if they don’t want to.

Management, like other Walmart employees, can wear sneakers.

What About Body Piercings?

For the most part, employees can wear body piercings.

However, body piercings cannot be unhygienic in any way or be distracting to customers.

Also, you may be asked to remove your facial piercing if you’re working in a food prep or fresh food area.

Can I Have Visual Tattoos?

Yes.

Walmart employees can have visible tattoos.

That being said, your tattoo cannot be inappropriate or disturbing in any way.

Can I Have a Red Mohawk Haircut?

No.

While Walmart is okay with you dyeing your hair, it must be a natural color and not distracting to shoppers.

Can I Have a Big Ol’ Beard?

Yes.

Walmart is fine with you having facial hair, but it must well groomed and not look like sasquatch.

Kohl’s Price Match Policy: How to Make It Work For You

Updated January 22, 2025 by Kyle James

Asking for a price-match at big box stores makes sense, but at Kohl’s? I was today years old when I discovered that Kohl’s offers price matching too. However, with any policy, the Kohl’s price match policy comes with some large restrictions, rules, and exclusions. Here’s everything you need to know so you can take advantage.

Kohl's Price Match Policy: How to Make It Work For You So You Can Save

The Kohl’s price match policy states that they’ll match a competitor’s in-store price, some online prices depending on the store, and will DEFINETLEY match Kohls.com pricing.

The item MUST be identical in all cases.

There are some rules to keep in mind when it comes to taking advantage of their price match policy.

See Also: Price-Match Policies: We Grade the Policy at 14 Popular Retailers

You Have 14 Days to Get a Price Match

Kohl’s offers customers a price adjustment for up 2 weeks.

So if it’s a significant purchase, be sure to keep that receipt and check competing stores for a lower price.

Also, be sure to periodically check to see if Kohl’s dropped the price of the item and go get a price adjustment.

PRO TIP: LEVERAGE KOHL’S CASH

Be sure to maximize the use of Kohl’s Cash when leveraging the price match policy.

For example, Kohl’s regularly runs promotions where you earn $10 in Kohl’s Cash for every $50 spent.

If your price-matched purchase is close to earning Kohl’s Cash but doesn’t quite meet the threshold (e.g., a $45 price-matched item during a $10 Kohl’s Cash for $50 promotion), consider adding a small item to reach the threshold. This way, you don’t leave potential Kohl’s Cash earnings on the table.

If you have several items to price match, make the purchases together to hit Kohl’s Cash thresholds (e.g., $50, $100) in a single transaction. This way, you earn more Kohl’s Cash while taking advantage of price matching.

They’ll Match Any Local Competitor

If you find a lower price from a store in your area, bring in the competitor’s ad for proof of the price and get a price match.

Keep in mind that Kohl’s has a long list of products and brands they will NOT price match.

Click here to check out all the brand exclusions that the Kohl’s price match policy does NOT accept.

Some of the more popular brands on the exclusions list include Apt 9, Vera Wang, Nine West, Tek Gear, The Big One, and Lauren Conrad.

The Online Stores They’ll Price Match

I specifically asked a Kohl’s representative which online retailers they’ll price match and they gave me this list:

– Boscov’s

 – JCPenney

– Meijer

– Saks

– Belk

– Carter’s

– Menards

– Sears

– Best Buy

– Dillard’s

– Lowe’s

– Neiman Marcus

– Target

– Bloomingdale’s

– Home Depot

– Macy’s

– Nordstrom

– Walmart

I was also told that when you’re ready to get an online price match just start a live chat session with Kohl’s and they’ll help you out.

Be sure to have your order number as well as the website where you found the lower price.

You Can’t Use a Coupon After Getting a Price Match

I asked an employee specifically about this and she said that once you get the lower price match you CAN’T then use a coupon on top of the lower price.

It’s one or the other.

She also said (with a smile) that “Kohl’s would go out of business if we let you get a price match, use a coupon, and earn Kohl’s cash.” Fair enough.

Kohl’s Won’t Price Match Amazon

Kohl’s will NOT price match products from Amazon or any other “online only” store.

But if you’re curious, these stores all WILL happily price match Amazon.

It’s also worth noting that Kohl’s will not accept a price match from warehouse clubs like Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s.

Get a Price Match on the Kohl’s Website

You absolutely can get a price match on the Kohl’s website.

Sometimes a product’s price on Kohls.com may be slightly higher than the price in-store and presents an opportunity to get a little money back.

Keep in mind that this only works if the price shown online does NOT reflect any coupon codes.

Beware of Product Exclusions

Some of the bigger product exclusions include:

– Mattresses

– Toys

– Select Novelty Gifts

– Sporting Goods

– Premium Electronics

Be sure to check out Kohl’s price match exclusions page to understand all the do’s and don’ts that are allowed.

Can’t Get a Black Friday Price Match

I was told that Kohl’s will not do any price matching on the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend.

Also known as Cyber Week, you can’t get a price match during this time period because some retailers will offer crazy cheap doorbuster deals and Kohl’s does NOT want to match those prices.

Always Hold On To That Receipt

You must have your original receipt with you if you are looking to get a price adjustment.

This is to provide both proof of purchase and to see exactly when you bought the product as you only have 14 days to get a price adjustment.

Where Do You Go To Get a Price Match

Head to the Kohl’s customer service desk to request a price match.

It’s usually near the entrance or exit of the store. If you’re unsure, ask a store associate for directions.

When it comes to doing the price match in-store, be sure to have a printed copy of the competitor’s local ad showing the identical product you wish to match.

The ad should have the product’s price and a description of the product to ensure it is identical to the Kohl’s product you are looking to match.

Ask the Reader: Have you ever asked for a price adjustment at Kohl’s? Was it an easy process or more hassle than it’s worth?

Score Free Stuff on Amazon…Easy Ways to Make It Happen

Updated January 31, 2025 by Kyle James

I’ve been getting free stuff from Amazon for years now. From making use of free trials to getting freebies for writing honest product reviews, to even getting to keep some stuff I try to return. Here’s how I make it happen.

Get Free Stuff on Amazon (Here's How to Make It Happen)

The too long/didn’t read breakdown is by using various free trial programs, and programs that give you points and reimbursements, you’ll get free stuff.

PRO TIP: FREE STUFF VIA AMAZON RETURNS

Have you ever tried to return a product to Amazon but they tell you to keep it and STILL give you your money back? It’s a strange phenomena, which seemed to start during COVID, that I’ve written about before.

Turns out the scenarios where Amazon is most likely to do this is when trying to return clothing, cheap electronics, bulky items, as well as health-related products like vitamins and supplements.

So…What Are These Free Products?

Here’s a handy list of free stuff (or at the very least credits/discounts) you can get on Amazon.

1. Two Free Audiobooks: If you sign up for Amazon’s free 30-day trial on Audible, you get 2 free audiobooks. Just be sure to cancel your membership subscriptions in time before the 30-day trial is up.

2. Use Facebooks Groups and 3rd Party Review Sites: In some Facebook groups and other 3rd party review sites, you can find vouchers or gift cards for certain items on Amazon, usually in exchange for a review on a certain Amazon product.

3. Amazon Music Unlimited: Amazon’s music streaming service also has a free 30-day trial for new customers to use the platform for ad-free music and podcasts.

4. Free Kindle eBooks: If you have a Kindle, you can download all sorts of free e-books.

5. Free Baby Box Samples: When you sign up and create an Amazon registry, you can get a bunch of coupons for various baby items. You’ll also get a free baby box filled with different samples of baby products inside.

6. Free Amazon Prime Trial: The most obvious freebie on my list is a free Amazon prime trial membership for 30 days. Just be sure to cancel your subscription in time if you don’t want to continue your Prime membership.

PRO TIP: AMAZON WILL LET YOU KEEP STUFF SENT BY MISTAKE

Have you ever had an Amazon product show up on your door step that you didn’t order? A couple years ago, I had a $339 comforter set show up at my house and amazingly Amazon let me keep it.

I originally thought it was a one off, but after writing about it, I got over 140 comments from shoppers who also got stuff from Amazon delivered to their residence that they were told to keep.

I was told that since the order wasn’t actually in Amazon’s system, they had no way to process a return. The Amazon chat rep told me I was free to use it, sell it, or donate it. I ended up selling it on eBay for about $250 if I remember correctly.

A Purchase is Required in Some Cases

Some programs do require you to purchase a product, complete program requirements, and then receive reimbursement for your purchase.

Here are a couple Amazon programs that require a purchase upfront, but then provide reimbursement:

1. Amazon Vine Program: The Vine program invites trusted reviewers to write reviews of new and pre-release products.

This program is a win-win for both Amazon Vine Program members and Amazon as members receive free products in exchange for writing honest reviews which will help inform other Amazon shoppers.

PRO TIPS: HOW TO GET INTO THE VINE PROGRAM

Here are some pro tips for getting into the Amazon Vine program.

You’ll want to focus on writing detailed, thoughtful, and helpful reviews for your past purchases.

Follow these 3 steps to boost your chances of being noticed by Amazon:

Consistency: Review a variety of items you’ve purchased, covering categories you are passionate about.

High-Quality Reviews: Provide in-depth insights about the product, including usage tips, pros/cons, and comparisons to similar items. Attach clear, helpful photos or videos when relevant.

Engage with Feedback: Pay attention to the “Helpful” votes your reviews receive. Respond to questions or comments to show engagement with the Amazon community.

2. RebateKey.com: OK, this one is pretty cool. New sellers on Amazon are trying to spread the word about their products and willing to practically give them away when they first start selling.

That’s when RebateKey.com steps in. Essentially you buy specific products on Amazon at the list price. Then when the seller verifies your purchase, they give you a huge rebate (up to 100%) and RebateKey manages the entire rebate process.

Here’s a screenshot of some of the deals on RebateKey to give you an idea:

RebateKey screenshot

It looks pretty darn cool and worth a look. I plan on trying it very soon and will report back my findings.
