Here’s the Costco Furniture Warranty (HINT: It’s Like Really Good)

What happens if you purchase furniture from Costco and later decide it doesn’t fit in your space or you simply don’t like it? Or spill red wine on it? Luckily, Costco has a rather generous furniture warranty, but you need to know exactly how it works. Read on to discover everything you need to know about Costco’s furniture warranty.

Here's the Costco Furniture Warranty (HINT: It's Like Really Good)

Furniture Warranty/Return Policy is Unlimited Days

Costco’s furniture warranty is actually not really a warranty at all, it’s just a REALLY good return policy.

They give you an unlimited number days after the time of purchase for a full refund or exchange on furniture items.

Costco will also accept defective furniture items from defective material or workmanship at ANY time.

WOMEN RETURNING 2.5 YEAR OLD COUCH SPARKS DEBATE

A Seattle women recently bragged on TikTok about returning a couch to Costco that was almost 3 years old and the Internet went wild.

She said she just didn’t like the color anymore and built up the gumption to return it.

She said it was little intimidating as everyone was staring at her, but they verified the purchase in their system and gave her a full refund for the price she paid.

It’s my take that Costco’s return policy is not designed for people who simply decide they don’t “like it” two years later, after they’ve happily lived on it with their kids and pets.

It’s designed to help you out if the item prematurely breaks or wears down before it should.

I feel like the “couch lady” took advantage of a loophole in the system, and if this trend continues, I’m not sure how Costco can keep such a liberal return policy.

Time will tell on this one.

Online Furniture Returns Works Similarly

The same Costco return policy also covers online furniture orders made on Costco.com.

And, furniture pieces with defects can also be returned at any time.

PRO TIP: KEEP ORIGINAL PACKAGING (TEMPORARILY)

If you need to return a large or bulky item, having the original packaging ensures it’s properly protected during transit. So hold to any packing material until you know for sure that the piece of furniture is right for your space.

Some Costco warehouses prefer or require that large items be returned in their original box for easier handling. This can also greatly speed up your return or exchange process.

If the original packaging is unavailable, in some cases you may need to purchase packaging materials (e.g., boxes, bubble wrap) to secure the item for return, which can add unnecessary expense.

How To Return LARGE Items Delivered to Your Home

You can return large furniture items by scheduling a pickup of the furniture to be returned.

To schedule your large furniture piece to be picked up, follow these simple steps:

1. Sign-In or Register for a Costco account.

2. Select Orders & Returns.

3. Choose the Return Items button next to the large furniture item you wish to return and follow the provided prompts to complete your return request.

4. You’ll then be sent an email with additional instructions to schedule a pickup at your home.

Refuse Delivery if an Item is Damaged

If you made an online furniture purchase through Costco.com, you SHOULD refuse delivery if there is damage.

Also, it’s worth noting that Costco’s return policy states customers can refuse products where the item or box shows signs of damage.

While it’s a total pain in the butt, be sure to check the item carefully before signing off on the furniture delivery as it will save you the MAJOR headache of having to return it later.

PRO TIP: TEST ASSEMBLE ASAP

Furniture often comes with multiple pieces and hardware. Testing assembly helps you quickly spot missing screws, damaged panels, or manufacturing defects.

Identifying issues right away also allows you to resolve them with Costco without delays.

If you discover an issue early on while putting it together, Costco’s return policy will allow you to return it half built. So there is no need to spend the time fully assembling it only to take it back.

You Can Return Furniture For Simply Not Liking It

You absolutely can return furniture if you don’t like it….at ANY TIME.

Because Costco has a “100% satisfaction guarantee” you can return an item for any reason and they’ll take it back.

But What If I Spill Red Wine on My Couch?

Not a problem.

You’ll probably get some dirty looks from Costco employees if you try to do this, but I’m sure it’s been done before.

Expect to have to wait for a manager’s approval on this type of return.

It’s worth noting that you could run into a manager who will NOT allow your return, in which case, you’ll have to contact the Costco Corporate office.

Can I Return a Couch that My Dog Peed On?

Surprisingly, yes.

This includes damage caused by pets, everyday wear and tear, damage from natural disasters, or other damage caused by the buyer.

I hit up Costco Live Chat and asked this question specifically and was told, “I have seen crazier things be returned.”

Seems like a crazy policy and one that would be easily abused, but for now it is what it is.

Know the Costco Employee Dress Code Before Your Interview

Updated January 29, 2025 by Kyle James

Costco wants its employees to look professional but be comfortable. If you’re thinking about applying, or about to start your job, understanding the Costco dress code is important. The last thing you want to do is show up for your interview or first day of work and not be in compliance.

What's the Costco Dress Code? Here's EVERYTHING You Need to Know

Costco doesn’t have a clear-cut dress code policy other than “clean, professional, and neat”.

With that said, here’s a breakdown of what we found out about Costco’s current dress code.

– You cannot wear anything with holes, rips, tears, or fringes.

– No tank tops or sleeveless shirts.

– No t-shirts, hoodies, or any shirt without a collar.

– No workout clothing.

– No shorts, scandals, or short skirts.

– Any brand tennis shoe or sneaker is fine.

In general, employees generally wear some sort of collared shirt with slacks or jeans.

It’s also important to note that some dress codes may vary slightly based on the Costco management in your area.

PRO TIP: WHAT TO WEAR TO YOUR COSTCO INTERVIEW

Dressing appropriately for your interview is essential to making a great first impression.

It’s very safe to assume that Costco interviews typically call for a business casual dress code.

Here’s what that means for both men and women.

For Men:

Shirt: A collared button-down shirt or a polo shirt. Avoid t-shirts or anything too casual.
Pants: Khakis, slacks, or dark, well-fitted jeans (no holes or rips).
Shoes: Clean, closed-toe shoes such as loafers, oxfords, or clean sneakers.
Optional: A blazer or sweater can elevate the look, but it’s not required.

For Women:

Top: A blouse, button-down shirt, or neat sweater. Avoid anything too revealing or overly casual (e.g., graphic tees or tank tops).
Bottoms: Slacks, a knee-length skirt, or dark, clean jeans.
Shoes: Flats, low heels, or clean, closed-toe shoes.
Optional: A blazer or cardigan adds polish.

Jeans Are Perfectly Fine

You can indeed wear jeans to work as a Costco employee and they DON’T have to be Kirkland jeans.

Just make sure the jeans don’t have holes, stains, rips, or overly frayed hems.

Shirts Needs To Have a Collar

Costco prefers their employees to wear a collared shirt.

However, you may be able to get away with wearing a plain t-shirt depending on what Costco location you work at.

PRO TIP: THE BAKERY DRESS CODE

As a bakery worker, there’s no official uniform—you can wear regular street clothes like other employees.

However, you’ll be required to wear an apron, hat, hairnet, and slip-resistant shoes. Also, deli and meat department employees typically wear jackets since they work in a walk-in refrigerator.

Some Hats Are Okay

Employees are only allowed to wear hats that have the Costco Wholesale logo on it.

Employees can also wear religious head coverings, like a hijab or turban.

Parking Lot Attendants Can Definitely Wear Hats

Costco parking lot attendants can wear hats as long as it’s a Costco Wholesale hat.

The hat also cannot be worn backward.

This one varies by location as I’ve seen lot attendant wear floppy hats (without a Costco logo) on hot summer days in my town.

Management at Costco Does NOT Dress Differently

If you are a manager at Costco, you don’t need to dress any differently than other warehouse employees.

However, if you’re a corporate Costco employee, you must wear  business casual clothing.

Costco’s Stance on Facial Piercings

Visible facial piercings, such as nose rings or lip piercings, are generally allowed, provided they are modest, non-distracting, and professional in appearance.

Large hoops, flashy jewelry, or piercings that might pose safety hazards (e.g., in food-handling roles) are typically discouraged.

During interviews or the onboarding process, it’s a good idea to err on the side of caution. Opt for a minimal or understated piercing (e.g., a simple nose stud) rather than a noticeable lip ring.

Costco’s Stance on Big Tattoos (Say…on the Neck)

Costco does not have a strict ban on visible tattoos, but the tattoo must not be offensive or disruptive to the professional environment.

Tattoos with vulgar, violent, racist, or otherwise inappropriate content are not allowed. If your tattoo fits within these guidelines, it’s generally acceptable to have it visible.

In customer-facing roles, such as cashier, membership desk, or greeter, there may be additional scrutiny.

With that said, large tattoos on the neck, for example, may be allowed as long as they do not make customers uncomfortable.

If the tattoo is deemed inappropriate or unprofessional, you may be asked to cover it using a scarf, turtleneck, or bandage.

You Typically Can Have a Tattoo Showing on Your Forearm

Again, for the most part, showing tattoos on your forearm is fine as long as it’s not vulgar or inappropriate.

While tattoos are becoming more mainstream these days, it’s important to remember that some Costco managers are stricter than others when it comes to body ink.

That being said, as long as your tattoos are not offensive or inappropriate in any way, you shouldn’t have any issues.

If the tattoo is tied to religious or cultural beliefs, Costco is legally obligated to accommodate it, as long as it doesn’t pose safety concerns or violate other policies.

Stance on Mohawks or Crazy Haircuts

Costco’s stance on mohawks and other unconventional or “crazy” haircuts is generally accommodating, as long as they maintain a clean and professional appearance.

There is no strict prohibition against mohawks, bright colors, or unconventional hairstyles, as long as the hairstyle is not distracting to customers or coworkers.

While mohawks or bright colors are not banned, they should be styled in a way that doesn’t appear unkempt or overly extreme. Meaning a neatly styled mohawk is more likely to be acceptable than a messy or dramatic one.

Just me smart about it and you should be fine.

It’s Good for High-School (16+) and College Students

You gotta be at least 16 years old.

The AEO student discount (and all Unidays student discounts for that matter) is only available to students aged 16 or over.

So if you’re a high school student, but under 16, you DON’T qualify for the American Eagle student discount.

No .edu Email Address? No Problem

If you don’t have a student .edu email address, you can still sign up for Unidays.

Either upload a current photo of your school ID or provide documentation as proof you are a current student at a college or university.

I wanted to get some more clarification on exactly how this works, so I hit up Unidays on Twitter and asked the question.

I was told that if you’re 16+, to drop an email to [email protected] with either your institution email address, or student ID, so they can help verify your account.

PRO TIP: ASK REDDIT FOR A COUPON

I was today years old when I realized Reddit has a thread for posting and sharing American Eagle coupons that people aren’t going to use.

You can actually ask for a coupon when you need one and there’s a really good chance someone will help you out.

Get in the habit of checking this thread whenever you shop at AE. The thread gets updated every month which is super cool.

Bonus Tip: Some of the coupons are good for sale and clearance purchases which your AE student discount is not.

Can’t Be Used on Clearance Items

Unfortunately, you can ONLY use your 20% student discount on full-priced items.

Therefore, don’t expect to be able to use your student discount on items that are in the sale or clearance section, or have a percentage off.

You Can Use It Online and In-Store

You can use your 20% off student discount BOTH online -OR- in-store at American Eagle.

When online shopping, you’ll simply provide your Unidays promo code at checkout.

When shopping in-store, you’ll provide a barcode (from Unidays) that the American Eagle employee can scan and your 20% discount will be applied.

PRO TIP: YOU’LL NEED TO RE-VERIFY EVERY 12 MONTHS

Keep in mind that once you get verified with Unidays you get access to the student discount for 12 months, after which you’ll need to re-verify your student status.

Also, during your 12 month activation period, you can use your AE student discount as many times as you’d like, there’s no cap on the discount amount that you can receive.

Discount Will Stack with AE Real Rewards

You CANNOT use other American Eagle coupon codes along with your student discount.

However, if you are signed up for the American Eagle loyalty program, you can earn points (“Real Rewards”) which can add up to “$5 off” rewards.

You get 10 points for every $1 spend, then when you reach 1,250 points (equivalent to $125 spent), you’ll get a $5 reward.

You CAN then combine multiple $5 off rewards with your 20% student discount for even more savings.
