I can’t think of a better way for a company to advertise than to hand out free stickers. Teens and millennials seem to put stickers on everything these days and have no problem essentially advertising the company for free. I’ve seen them on laptops, water bottles, backpacks, car bumpers, bike racks, and even smartphones. Which is why I was surprised to discover that the list of places that gives them away is kinda small. If you’re a HUGE sticker fan (like my 3 kids) than you’re gonna love my list of places that give them away for free.

Marshalls Return Policy: Everything You Need to Know + Insider Tips for Success

Updated October 1, 2024 by Kyle James

When it comes to popular discount stores, Marshalls tops the list for many bargain shoppers. But the Marshalls return policy can be confusing, especially when you lose your receipt or when returning a gift. Their policy even differs depending on whether you made your purchase online or in-store which can be REALLY confusing. So I went out and figured out how it all works at Marshalls so your next return will be a piece of cake. Let’s get to it…

Marshalls Return Policy: Everything You Need to Know + Tips for Success

How Many Return Days Does Marshalls Offer?

30 Days.

Just bring back your items within 30 days for a full refund to your original form of payment.

Do I Need My Receipt to Return Stuff?

Unless you want store credit, YES you’ll need your receipt.

Without your receipt you’ll be stuck with store credit for the current selling price of the item.

The same can be said for returns with a receipt that are over 30 days old.

PRO TIP: MANY MANAGERS ARE LENIENT

If you have your receipt and it’s been 31-45 days since you made the purchase, often times the Marshalls manager on shift WILL accept the return. So be polite and always give it a try as you stand a great chance for success.

Does Marshalls Offer an “Extended” Holiday Return Policy?

Yes.

Purchases made at Marshalls between 10/8/23 – 12/24/23 may be returned all the way until 1/25/24.

Their normal return policy will then apply to all purchases starting on 12/26/23.

If I Have My Receipt Do I Need My Credit Card?

Yes.

I called Marshalls and asked this question specifically and was told that “Yes, the physical credit card has to be present for money to be put back on to it.”

Can Items Be Worn or Used?

No.

Very little wiggle room on this one as Marshalls imposes a strict policy.

Anything that appears to be used, worn, or “unsellable” will NOT be taken back.

PRO TIP: RETURNING CLOTHING THAT FALLS APART

While Marshalls has the blanket policy of not taking back worn clothing, if you wear something, wash it, and it starts to fall apart at the seams, they will USUALLY let you return it. Technically it’s left up to the manager’s discretion, but from the employees that I’ve talked with, most will definitely let you return stuff that starts to fall apart.

Any Exceptions to the 30 Days?

There are a few return policy exceptions worth noting:

– Gift Cards: Not eligible for a return.

– Beauty Items/Perfume: If they’ve been opened or tampered with you cannot return them.

– Handbags: If you spent over $499.99 on a handbag you cannot return it in-store. Call Marshalls at 888-627-7425 to discuss your options.

– Long Occasion Gowns: Can’t return them in-store.

– Stuff Over $1,000 in value: Not eligible for an in-store return. Call the above phone number and find out what your options are.

– Final Sale Items: Guess what? You cannot return them. Sell them on eBay if you don’t want them.

– Swimwear and Undergarments: While still a 30-day return policy, items must still have the original price tag attached to be returnable.

PRO TIP: MUST RETURN ITEMS TO MARSHALLS…NOT TJ MAXX

Some stores let you return items to their sister brands, but NOT Marshalls. While you can return items to ANY Marshalls store, you cannot return stuff to TJ Maxx, Home Goods or Sierra.

What About Online Purchases?

40 days.

Marshalls gives you an extra 10 days to return online purchases.

You can return items to your local Marshalls or via the mail.

When returning in-store, be sure to bring your receipt or shipping confirmation email. It’s also worth noting that your packing slip serves as your receipt.

When returning via the mail, use the return shipping label that was included in your package and follow the instructions.

Be aware that you’ll be hit with a steep $11.99 fee when returning via FedEx, and it will take 10-14 business days after they receive your return to credit your account.

For this reason, always return in-store when possible.

All refunds of online purchases will be credited to your original form of payment.

What About a Return to a No Longer Available Credit Card?

I actually had someone ask me this question in the comments, so I contacted Marshalls to find the answer.

I was told that in most cases store credit will be issued, but the rep I talked to had heard of some managers offering cash back.

So it doesn’t hurt to ask for cash, but be prepared to get store credit.

Can I Return Gifts Without a Gift Receipt?

Yes, but you’ll have to settle for store credit at the current selling price of the item -OR- an even exchange.

Again, items cannot be worn or used.

DID YOU PAY WITH A CHECK?

If you originally paid with a check at Marshalls and want a cash refund, you’ll have to wait 10 days after the purchase date for your check to clear the bank.

Can My Return Be Turned Down?

Yes.

If Marshalls feels you’re abusing their return policy they can decline your return.

This usually happens when you make too many receipt-less returns.

To this end, they track all returns to keep their policy from being abused.

NO RECEIPT? BE PREPARED TO SHOW YOUR I.D.

Marshalls is cracking down on fraudulent returns and requires a valid I.D., name, signature, and current address when making a return WITHOUT a receipt. If they give you store credit on a receipt-less return, your name will be on the merchandise credit. Only you will be able to use the credit and you’ll need to show your I.D. when making a purchase with the merchandise credit.

What If I Paid via PayPal?

If you paid via PayPal on an in-store purchase, you’ll have to settle for merchandise credit when making a return.

If you used PayPal to make an online purchase, your refund will be a charge-back credit to your PayPal account, minus a $9.99 S/H fee.

What Else Do I Need to Know?

Here are a few more nuggets of important “return policy” information…

– Stuff bought in Canada cannot be returned to a Marshalls store in the U.S., and vice versa.

– You cannot return items to a TJ Maxx location, you must return to a Marshalls store.

– Stuff bought in-store cannot be returned online.

– Exchanges are not allowed for online purchases.

Ask the Reader: What’s been your experiences with the Marshalls return policy? Good, bad, or indifferent?

Happy returns.

Ross Return Policy: Insider Tips for Successful Returns Every Time

Updated October 15, 2024 by Kyle James

The Ross return policy can be a little confusing. Especially if you lost your receipt or you’re outside the return window that Ross gives its shoppers. In this article I’ve attempted to answer all your burning questions and even provide some insider tips that’ll make your next return at Ross a breeze.

Ross Return Policy: Insider Tips for Successful Returns Every Time

How Many Return Days Does Ross Give Me?

30 days.

Ross gives you 30 days from the date of purchase to return items.

Your refund will be processed via your original payment method.

You DO NOT need to return items to the same Ross store where you bought them.

PRO TIP: HOLD ON TO THOSE PRICE TAGS

Even if you think you’re going to keep an item, hold on to those Ross price tags for 30 days. Once you throw out the tags, it becomes much harder to make a return, even if you never actually wore the item. Stuff is no longer considered new without a tag. The only items returned to Ross that require the tag to still be attached include prom dresses, underwear, and lingerie.

You Still Have Options After 30 Days

If you try to return something after 30 days you’re NOT completely out of luck.

You can bring it back, you’ll just have to settle for store credit or an even exchange if you have your receipt.

Without your receipt, you’re stuck with the lowest selling price of the item, which could by as low as $0.45.

PRO TIP: CLEVER RECEIPT HACK

The best way to insure you never lose a Ross receipt again is to take a picture of it with your phone. Then create a “Receipts” album and store all your receipt pictures in it. Then when you need it, you can pull it up on your phone, print it out, and take it back with you when making your return. It does not need to be your “original” piece of paper, it just has to have the pertinent information on it, and be legible.

Hold On To That Receipt

You can return items without a receipt but you’ll get store credit for the current selling price of the item.

Be prepared to show a valid photo ID when making a “no-receipt return”.

Ross uses a 3rd party refund verification system and tracks your returns by using your ID.

If you abuse the system, or make too many return without a receipt, your return WILL be declined.

PRO TIP: RETURNING ITEMS WITH A DAMAGED RECEIPT

Someone in the comments mentioned that they spilt coffee on their receipt and it ONLY showed the date and return date. They wanted to know if that would be an issue with the return. So I called my local Ross and was told that as long as the barcode at the bottom of the receipt was still usable, then it wouldn’t be an issue.

See Also: 11 Brilliant Ways to Save BIG at Ross Dress For Less

Items at Ross Can’t Be Worn or Used

Items returned to Ross must NOT be “used, worn or altered” in any way.

They need to have the original tag attached as well. Items returned without a Ross tag are very hard (if not impossible) for employees to process.

If you removed the tag, bring it back and they can re-attach it for you.

Exceptions to Their 30-Day Return Policy

There are a few exceptions.

  1. Fine Jewelry: Same 30-day policy but jewelry must have original tags attached and be accompanied by your receipt. Also, you can only return jewelry to a Ross store that has a jewelry department.
  2. Swimwear & Lingerie: Same 30-day policy but bathing suits and lingerie must have original tags attached and be accompanied by your receipt.
  3. Software: If you open software bought at Ross you cannot return it unless it’s defective, in which case you can only exchange it.

I’ll keep this list updated in case new items are added to their exceptions list.

What About Returning Items Bought With a Check?

If you want a cash refund, you must wait 5 business days for the check to clear.

You Can’t Return a Ross Gift Card

But if you LOST your gift card (or had it stolen) you can get a new one as long as you still have the original register receipt.

Just bring it into any Ross store and they’ll set you up with a new gift card.

Can I Return Furniture for Store Credit Without a Receipt?

I called Ross customer service to get an answer to this question.

The Ross rep actually called my local store and spoke with the manager as it’s handled on a store-by-store basis.

The manager said that I COULD return the piece of furniture, without a receipt, for store credit.

But…it had to still have original tags on it and show no wear and be resell-able.

It’s also important to note that you’ll be stuck with store credit for the current selling price of the furniture.

How are Debit Card Returns Handled?

When making a return where your original form of payment was a debit card, your return will be added back to your back account via your debit card.

You can also opt for store credit if you’d prefer.

Returning a Gift Without a Receipt

If the item still has the price tag attached, you should be able to return the item for store credit.

If there is no tag, and no receipt, you’re stuck with it.

Ross Has a “Holiday” Return Policy

After some research, it turns out Ross DOES INDEED have a separate return policy for holiday and Christmas purchases.

Ross gives you until January 31st to return all items purchased between December 1st – 31st.

Ask the Reader: Do you like the return policy at Ross or do you find it a little bit stingy?
