In-N-Out Burger Menu Hacks That’ll Save You Money
In-N-Out Burger is by far my favorite fast food joint, especially when you can get creative and order something delicious from their famous secret menu. But the super cool thing about In N Out is that their prices are usually lower than other fast food joints, and you get higher quality food for your money. With that said, there are still ways to hack their menu to save even more. Here are 5 of my favorites…
Don’t Be Afraid to Order “A La Carte”
It usually costs significantly more at fast food restaurants to order items individually rather than ordering a combo meal.
But that’s not the case with the In-N-Out menu.
So if you only want a burger and a drink than that’s what you should order.
Not only will it save you money, but you won’t be stuck with fries you’ll end up eating even though you really never wanted them.
PRO TIP: SCORE FREE HOT COCOA WHEN IT RAINS
I was driving thru my local In-N-Out a while back grabbing some burgers when I saw the above sign in the window.
Free hot cocoa for kids on rainy days. Pretty cool. See if your local In-N-Out does the same thing.
Split a Large Milkshake and Save
The milkshakes at In-N-Out are pretty darn good as they’re made with hand-scooped ice cream.
But a “large” shake is pretty darn HUGE and enough dairy to feed an entire family.
So if you only want 2 small shakes for your kids, consider ordering a large and ask them to split it for you.
You’ll save a bunch of money and pretty much end up with the same amount of milkshake.
PRO TIP: SCORE A HUGE MEAL FOR UNDER $9
I’m always searching for the best values at fast foods joints (I agree, I have a problem).
So with that said, if you love value and need lots of food, this has to be your go-to In-N-Out order moving forward:
- Hamburger – Add grilled onions, chopped onions, extra lettuce. You’ll get a big ol’ burger for less than $4.
- Animal Style Fries – Big pile of VERY filling fries with melted cheese, caramelized onions, and special sauce. Cost about $4.50.
Ask Them To Cut a Burger In Half
There is NO kids menu at In-N-Out.
So when ordering for young children who can’t finish their own burger, consider ordering ONE burger and having them cut it in half for you.
Not only will you have less waste but you’ll save money too.
PRO TIP: CUSTOMIZE YOUR ONIONS
In-N-Out offers various onion preparations. Not only can you request “boring” raw onions, but you can also ask for grilled onions, or even a whole grilled onion slice for a different flavor and texture in your burger.
No extra costs for any onion variety.
Skip the Bun and Save
Did you know that they offer a protein burger? Essentially it’s a burger with lettuce leaves instead of the bun.
I order it all the time when I take my kids as the meat has a ton of flavor and the veggies are always crisp and fresh.
Also, it’s by far the healthiest thing on the In N Out menu and the $2.70 price tag for the “protein wrap cheeseburger” is VERY easy on the wallet.
It comes in at a mere 240 calories when ordered without cheese or special sauce.
PRO TIP: NEAPOLITAN SHAKE – THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS
Can’t decide between vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry? Why choose when you can have all three?
Ask for a Neapolitan shake, and they’ll swirl all three flavors into one delicious, creamy treat.

Order a 3×3 and Dissect It
Here’s a clever way to get 2 burgers for the price of one.
Simply order a “3×3 burger with extra lettuce”.
You’ll get a burger with 3 patties, 3 slices of cheese, and several leaves of lettuce.
Then dissect it and take out some of the lettuce and 1 patty with cheese on it.
The result is a protein wrap and a double-double cheeseburger.
I did this last week and gave my son the double-double and I was perfectly happy with the protein wrap as it saved me BOTH money and calories.
