I’m a huge fan of taking advantage of price match policies when retailers allows it. And guess what? Nordstrom absolutely allows it and it’s a big part of their tradition of great customer service. So I figured it was time to take a deep dive into the Nordstrom price match policy and figure out exactly how it works.

Nordstrom Price Match Policy: Everything You Need to Know

Nordstrom offers a price match but it’s a bit muddy, especially when trying to figure out which stores they’ll actually price match.

This is why I wanted to write this article and set the record straight.

The 13 Stores Nordstrom Will Price Match

Surprisingly, I couldn’t find an answer to this question ANYWHERE online so I hit up Nordstrom live chat and asked.

Turns out Nordstrom ONLY price matches the following 13 retailers:

1- Amazon (must be sold & shipped by Amazon)

2- Bloomingdale’s

3- Finish Line

4- Footlocker

5- Macy’s

6- Mr. Porter

7- Neiman Marcus

8- Net-A-Porter

9- Sephora

10- ShopBop

11- Saks Fifth Avenue

12- Ulta Beauty

13- Zappos

PRO TIP: THEY’LL PRICE MATCH J.CREW TOO

According to some Nordstrom shoppers, they’ll price match J.Crew as well.

Unfortunately, you won’t find a lot of J.Crew merchandise at Nordstrom these days, but that could change in the future.

You Get 14 Days to Get a Price Adjustment

If you find a lower price for up to 14 days after your purchase you can request a price match.

This can be done either in-store or via their web portal HERE.

Need Your Receipt to Make it Happen

For in-store purchases you need to request the price match at the time of purchase or by bringing in your receipt at a later date.

So…yes, you NEED your receipt as proof of purchase.

PRO TIP: GET AN ONLINE PRICE ADJUSTMENT VIA THEIR WEBSITE

You no longer have to go back into a Nordstrom location to get a price match, you can now do it via their website here: Nordstrom Customer Service.

You’ll need your order number and zip code and just follow the instructions to get some money back.

Specifics You Need to Be Aware Of…

In order to get a price match you need to meet the following 4 criteria.

  1. Item must be identical.
  2. Must be in-stock at select competitor.
  3. Bring in the current ad of the competitor, or a clickable link to the product on your smartphone as evidence of the lower price.
  4. Only 1 price match per item.

The Exceptions to Their Policy That You Need to Know

There are quite a few exceptions actually…

– Limited-Time Sale – If something goes on sale, even for a short period of time, you cannot get the lower price.

– Final or Closeout Items – Instead, try and return the item at full price then rebuy it at the lower price.

– Order-level discounts – Not sure what this means, does anyone know? Leave a comment below and fill me in.

– Designer Brands purchased at a discount – If you already bought it “on sale” you can’t get a price match on top of that.

– Gift card promotions – If Nordstrom is having a deal on gift cards and selling them for less than face value you can’t get a price match if you bought a gift card before the deal started.

– Shipping offers – This one is kind of obvious.

– Items from the outlet – This includes stuff bought from Nordstrom Rack.

– Flash sales – Can’t get a price match if you originally bought the item during a Flash Sale.

– Auction & Club Retailers – They won’t price match places like Costco, Sam’s Club or eBay.com.

– Regional and non-U.S.-based retailers.

Can’t Get a Price Adjustment on Stuff That Goes on Sale

Nordstrom is famous for offering anniversary sales, limited-time savings, and “extra savings” events.

Unfortunately you CAN’T get a price-match on stuff bought before “the specific discount time period”.

You Can Also Get an Online Price Match

Unlike many online retailers, Nordstrom allows you to get an online price match when you shop their website.

As mentioned earlier, they have a webpage set up to start the process.

You just enter your order number and zip code and they’ll look up your purchase and help you get the price match.

I’m confused at when is the appropriate time for me to apply for a price match adjustment. The 14 day policy apparently doesn’t apply to someone like me who just made a same day order but the representative can’t apply any price match adjustments until after the transaction has processed and shipped, so I’m not sure what the 14 day rule is even for if I can’t

1.) call ahead of the transaction to have it applied
2.) they can’t apply it after the transaction prior to shipping
3.) nor can they apply it after processing and shipping.

So confusing. Also if the representative has trouble citing the source of the price match, And I offer to send in some sort of proof (like a screenshot) I’m given an email address to send it in even though that type of content is not valid or useable. So what’s the point? That has made it Even more confusing.

Why give me an point of contact to send in a screenshot that will be disregarded anyways. Lastly, this leaves me to wait for a response in hopes that someone will get back to me in a timely manner and the price match must still be ongoing and valid to review for eligibility.

I also asked specifically how long I would have to call in regarding to having a price match applied and I’m told 14 days, but how can they prove that the price match was available during time of purchase if it the promotion has ended, yet the only proof I have is a screenshot to verify my items were in fact available else where at a more affordable price and the rep cannot see this on their end. Seems like this is not very organized. Why offer it in the first place ?

FYI-as an employee of N.com, i can say WE will price match/adjust from ANY source presented, as long as WE can see the item, same style/color/size on the source at the lower price, then it will be considered.

WE are NOT restricted to just the 10 companies listed in this article.

NordyGirl

additionally, Price match/adjustments is NOT allowed for items found on : limited-time sale, flash sale, close-out sale, final sale, restricted sale. the lower price must be available to the public and at the store’s regular price
